At the Shore (Coast)

So, my mom’s family is from Margate, NJ, which is right next to and almost touching Atlantic City. It’s really neat to get some of the family history. When I explored Atlantic City and Margate, I found some of my family past scattered around.
My Great Great Maternal Grandparents (on the maternal side of my Grandmother)-I hope that’s right- are the Reed’s. That’s my name! And they had a pharmacy and an ALLEY! That means that there’s an alley in New Jersey that’s really my name!!! Here is a picture of it. There are no markings and the back of it may be a parking garage, but that’s more than most people have. I’ll have to look at city planning records or something to find some sort of a record.

Here is a picture of the house (in Margate) that my Great Grandparents received as a wedding present from one set of Great Great Grandparents. My Step-Uncle/Cousin Danny lives in it with his wife.

And here are some pictures of my PopPop, my mom, and Nat…

And here is a picture of a hobo, just because…

After a busy morning with my mom, Nat, my mom, and I headed off for the shore. My grandfather/step great uncle and my great aunt/step grandmother live in Margate City, NJ which is just outside of Atlantic City.

It’s actually contiguous with A.C. So, we hit another state today, New Jersey, and Nat was yelping about the Jersey Devil. Which apparently is the Loch Ness Monster of the Garden State. Who knows how he knew that, or what the heck that the Jersey Devil is. But, anyway, my mom had the camera, so here are some pictures.

It’s pretty amazing to see the place where my mom’s family is from. We had a street, called Reed. And a funeral parlor named Keates. I am related to the poet, Keats, and this is how they spell it here.

Gas is pretty cheap here…

All the streets are names that you would recognize from the Monopoly game. It’s just amazing being around such history and American culture.

We saw my PopPop!

Then we went SWIMMING! I got a bit swept away by the rough waves, so we went back to shore. I mean off shore. I don’t understand islandisms.

We love old people!

(Jack, Aunt Barb, Nancy)
My mom was very happy to be “home”!

She ran into her cousin-stepbrother, Danny.

We went on a walk down the beach to see Lucy.

It was quite pleasant!
