my story on “why the dog door is going away” or “holy &^(! I just woke up in my living room to a raccoon staring at me”

i passed out on the living room couch tonight after a long and exhausting day.

i woke up at about 3:20 to the sound of our dog door opening. i figured that it was tofu or snert face and closed my eyes again. then i heard the “cat” walk straight to pork chop’s food in my living room (30 feet from dog door) and start eating it. thinking that was weird, i sat up and saw that the “cat” was indeed a FREAKIN’ RACCOON! when i saw it, i gasped and pork chop jumped up. (i think that she thought that it was snert face and didn’t think much of it at first.)

phone battery dead. computer batter dead. (i was running around this afternoon without having a chance to juice up!) roomy out for the night.

pork chop started barking at the raccoon- a fairly large beast that had to squeeze through the small dog door- and chased it back through the kitchen. i was screaming at her to stop because i didn’t want her to get swatted or attacked! so, the raccoon ran out and i ran into the kitchen to put the cover on the door, which of course got stuck a few inches from the bottom. pork chop kept barking and i gathered stuff to block it off while seeing that a raccoon paw could still stick through it, although the full thing couldn’t get it.

pork chop kept barking at it and it finally went away. as will the dog door. as i’m writing this, i heard a cat and then the dog door try to open. i think it’s snert face but i am not unblocking that thing until it’s light outside and not raccoon time.

so, the craziest thing is: that raccoon knew where the dog food was in my living room. he passed a garbage can full of food on his trot into my living room. has that raccoon been coming in regularly?!?!

i think it’s time to get the rabies vaccines up to date!!

snert face is outside and pork chop and tofu are on edge- they are both sitting staring at the door.
